Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, expressed profound grief over the tragic accident in which an Air India flight bound for London from Ahmedabad airport crashed into buildings in the city, claiming the lives of several passengers and local residents. He termed the incident as shocking, distressing, and deeply unfortunate.

In his condolence message, Pawar stated that the entire state of Maharashtra, along with the rest of the nation, is mourning the tragedy. He added that the people of Maharashtra stand in solidarity with the bereaved families affected by this devastating incident.

Shortly after take-off, the Air India flight en route to London crashed into residential buildings in Ahmedabad. “The entire incident was extremely distressing. Gujarat Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance services, medical teams, and security forces reached the site promptly and carried out immediate rescue and relief operations. However, the loss of lives is immense and irreparable. Although the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined, it will be revealed after a thorough investigation. Nonetheless, urgent steps must be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Ajit Pawar emphasised.

Pawar pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken serious cognisance of the crash. Gujarat Chief Minister has briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has left for Gujarat to oversee the situation.

The incident highlights the urgent need to strengthen aviation safety. “Airlines must re-evaluate their safety protocols and ensure strict adherence to safety standards to prevent such accidents from occurring again,” Pawar appealed.

Meanwhile, while on a scheduled tour of Akola and Buldhana, Pawar conducted his programs in a low-key manner as a mark of respect and paid heartfelt tributes to the passengers who lost their lives in the tragedy.
