DAVOS, SWITZERLAND — In a move set to redefine the digital landscape of Western India, the Maharashtra government has inked a historic ₹1,00,000 crore Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lodha Developers Ltd at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026. The agreement, signed at the high-profile Maharashtra Pavilion, focuses on transforming the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) into a global powerhouse for data and technology.
The partnership was formalised between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Abhishek Lodha, Managing Director and CEO of Lodha Group. This massive capital infusion is specifically earmarked for the Information Technology and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sectors, with a heavy emphasis on the establishment of next-generation Data Centres.
DRIVING THE AI AND CLOUD REVOLUTION
The proposed facilities are designed to meet the skyrocketing demands of India’s AI and cloud computing industries. Strategically located within the MMR, these digital hubs will operate under the state’s ‘Green Integrated Data Centre’ policy, which mandates the use of sustainable energy solutions. This approach not only aligns with international environmental benchmarks but also provides the robust backend infrastructure necessary for India’s digital-first economy.

ECONOMIC IMPACT: 1.5 LAKH NEW JOBS
Beyond the technological advancements, the project carries a significant socio-economic mandate. It is projected to create 1,50,000 new jobs, ranging from high-end technical roles to various service-oriented positions across the Mumbai metropolitan area. This employment surge is expected to bolster the local economy and further cement Mumbai’s reputation as a magnet for top-tier global talent.
For Lodha Developers, a giant traditionally synonymous with luxury real estate and commercial projects, this MoU represents a significant strategic pivot toward high-growth digital infrastructure.
MAHARASHTRA DOMINATES DAVOS DAY 1
The agreement was the crown jewel of a highly successful opening day for the Maharashtra delegation in Davos. The state secured total investment pledges exceeding ₹14.5 lakh crore across several “sunrise” sectors on Monday alone.
As Maharashtra already accounts for nearly 60% of India’s total data centre capacity, this latest ₹1 lakh crore commitment ensures the state maintains its commanding lead in the nation’s digital transformation journey.
