Maharashtra’s Samruddhi Expressway Nears Completion with Final Stretch Inauguration

Mumbai: On Thursday, June 5, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will officially open the final 76-kilometer segment of the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, connecting Igatpuri to Amane in Thane district. This milestone will mark the completion of the 701-kilometer Mumbai-Nagpur expressway, a transformative infrastructure project designed to halve travel time between the two cities from 16 hours to approximately eight hours.”

The concluding stretch, built at a cost of ₹1,182 crore, was funded collaboratively by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The expressway, engineered for speeds up to 150 km per hour, features 33 major bridges, 274 minor bridges, 65 flyovers, and six tunnels, including the longest tunnel at Kasara Ghat.

Previous phases of the project were launched in stages, with the Shirdi to Bharvir section opened in May 2023 by then-Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Bharvir to Igatpuri segment inaugurated in March 2024 by Dada Bhuse, the former MSRDC minister. The fully operational expressway is expected to enhance connectivity and boost economic activity across Maharashtra.
