Mumbai: After 4 years, Mumbai’s Mayor Bungalow is set to revamp situated at Byculla’s Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo. Civic officials informed that before appointment of city’s next mayor the bungalow will be ready as it will be done on a priority basis.
The bungalow has been shut down for almost four years since 2022. As the modal code of conduct came into effect before the civic elections on December 15, 2025 BMC was unable to carry out any renovation task. It resulted in late tenders floating because of which now the renovation work has begun.
As per the BMC, the deadline to complete the task is 60 days in which the final cost of the project will be assessed only after the work gets accomplished. The upgrade will include both functional and conservational elements of heritage inside the bungalow. The upgradation ranges from maintaining hygiene to replacement and upgradation of upholstery along with some furniture work. The entire bungalow will be repainted with repaired seats , waterproofing roof or fixing any leakages reported by Mid-day.
Apart from this, the civic body has listed 13 categories of work. These include fixing the mayor’s wooden chair, wooden sofa with smooth foam and fabric, and if at all to fix any other damages that come across the list. Following this, installing PVC flooring, replacement of mattresses and quilts, flooring Hitkari red carpet and even polishing and restoring furniture that may be of use.
The last use of the mayor’s official residence bungalow was utilised by then Shiv Sena UBT leader Kishori Pednekar during her tenure. Since the mayoral tenure ended in March 2022 the mayor’s official bungalow was vacated after her term’s completion for 2017-2022.
