Black Magic Lilavati Hospital: FIR Filed Over ₹1,200 Crore Misappropriation

Mumbai: Police in Mumbai have filed a formal complaint (FIR) against 17 individuals for the alleged illegal removal of ₹1,200 crore from the public charity that manages Lilavati Hospital in Bandra.

The accused include former trustees of the well-known hospital. They are facing accusations of large-scale financial irregularities, manipulation of accounts, and illegal transfer of funds, reportedly revealed by a detailed forensic audit. Adding a bizarre element to the case, the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust (LKMMT), which runs the hospital, has also alleged that the former trustees practiced black magic on hospital grounds.

The FIR, officially registered on March 6th based on a complaint from a current trustee, has been handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), a specialized unit of the Mumbai Police, for in-depth investigation.

According to the FIR, the current trustees, who took over management of the LKMMT in 2023, discovered significant financial discrepancies committed by the previous administration.

The forensic audit reportedly uncovered evidence of trust funds being unlawfully moved to overseas accounts, illegal financial transactions disguised as legitimate expenses, questionable investments, and substantial kickbacks allegedly received by the accused over several years.

The complaint states that this alleged financial misconduct has negatively impacted the operations of the trust and the healthcare services provided by Lilavati Hospital.

Following the findings of the forensic audit, Prashant Mehta, a permanent trustee, approached a court in Bandra. The metropolitan magistrate court subsequently instructed the police to register an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and related offenses.

“More than three FIRs have already been registered against the former trustees and others involved,” Prashant Mehta told reporters on Tuesday. “We have also initiated a fourth legal action against these individuals based on a separate complaint filed at the Bandra police station concerning black magic and occult practices.”

Parambir Singh, former Mumbai police commissioner and now an executive director at Lilavati Hospital, informed reporters that eight containers holding what appeared to be human remains – bones and hair – were discovered hidden under the floor of the trust’s office. These items have been sealed and submitted to the police for further examination. Singh also stated that the former trustees allegedly responsible for the financial wrongdoing are believed to be currently residing in Belgium and Dubai, UAE.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Prashant Mehta asserted, “The extensive misconduct and financial misappropriation uncovered by the forensic audit is not only a violation of the trust placed in these allegedly fraudulent former trustees, but also poses a direct threat to the fundamental mission of our hospital.” He added, “We are committed to ensuring that every person involved in these illegal activities is held accountable, and we urge the Enforcement Directorate to promptly and decisively investigate these financial crimes.”

What is black magic?

Black magic, also known as dark magic, is the use of supernatural forces to inflict harm on someone, usually for evil purposes. Unlike other modules of healing, black magic is seldom used for the good, and is hence usually carried out in secrecy, and behind closed doors. According to the literature available online, the magic can be processed through a person’s name, curses, spells, summoning, etc, in which evil spirits are specifically called out for the same.

Unlike white magic, which is carried out with the help of spiritual beings for the larger good of humanity, black magic takes the help of evil spirits to inflict harm on a person. It is said that an individual who is under the influence of black magic, might suddenly lose his/her job, go through physical pain, financial crunch, breakdown of a marriage, or loss of a child/loved one etc. It is said that the more powerful black magic is, the more harm will be inflicted on the individual.
