At Least 4 Dead, Several Injured As Reversing Best Bus Crushes Pedestrians In Mumbai’s Bhandup

Mumbai: Just over a year after the deadly BEST bus accident in Kurla, another fatal incident has shaken Mumbai. On Monday night at approximately 10:05 pm, a BEST bus ran over passengers outside Bhandup (West) railway station.

According to sources from BEST Undertaking, the bus was reversing when it crushed people waiting near the bus stop. Police officials at the scene stated that the bus reportedly struck 10-12 people, of whom three have died. The bus involved is said to be an electric vehicle manufactured by Olectra.

Balasaheb Pawar, senior police inspector of Bhandup police station, confirmed that the police team is at the location and currently evacuating the injured to the hospital. “At least two people have been crushed under the bus as I can see,” Pawar stated.

Preliminary information received by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) indicated that the bus collided with passengers while reversing. Following the incident, the Fire Brigade, police, BEST personnel, and ambulance services were immediately dispatched to the site. Sources indicated that five to six additional people are likely injured.

The accident recalls the tragic incident on December 9, 2024, when a BEST bus driver rammed into several pedestrians and vehicles in Kurla, killing nine people and injuring 37 others.
