AC Local Riders BEWARE! Massive Ticket Checking Campaign Underway!
The most used transport means these days is travelling through local trains. The local trains of Mumbai especially famous around the country for being the most populated and the most used and easy way of transport. The first AC EMU was flagged off in the year of 2017. Daily more than nearly 3 .7 million passengers commute everyday by the local train network on the central and the western railway.
Accordingly, Western railway’s Mumbai suburban network of carries approx. 3 million passengers everyday through its 1406 (including 109 AC ) local train services run daily. The travel expense of a AC EMU ticket costs around 200rs for a return ticket.
During the financial year 2024-25 (up to January 2025), Mumbai Division’s Ticket checking teams penalized more than 51,600 cases of irregular travellers in AC locals and has recovered an amount of Rs. 1.72 crore as penalty. The month of January-2025,an amount of Rs.20.97 lakh was penalized from 6258 cases of the irregular travel, as against Rs. 16.07 lakh from 4,743 cases during January 2024. The graph has increased by 31% in fine and 32% in the irregular cases. The officer of Western railways has stated that in order to enhance the travel experience of the bonafide passengers and curb irregular travellers in AC locals, Western Railway’s Mumbai Division has launched several steps and initiatives, including a dedicated AC Task Force in suburban trains, Special Monitoring Team to oversee issues of irregular travel. Special drives will be conducted at frequent intervals.
