Following significant losses in his business, a 61-year-old businessman allegedly committed suicide on Monday afternoon by jumping from the terrace of a 20-story residential building in Ghatkopar (East).
Manish Manilal Bhayani, a resident of Garodia Nagar, Ghatkopar (East), who worked in the ball-bearings industry, has been identified as the deceased.
Around 12:30 pm on September 7, the Pant Nagar police reported to the control room that a man had leaped from the terrace of Building No. 14, Simarajdhani in Ghatkopar (East). Bhayani was gravely injured when a police squad arrived on the scene. He was taken right away to Rajawadi Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead.
According to police investigations, Bhayani came at the building at approximately 9:37 am to see Ashok Karsandas Solanki, a 71-year-old acquaintance who lives in Flat No. 1302. Bhayani’s financial transactions with Solanki’s 45-year-old son, Krishna Solanki, were reported by the police. But Krishna wasn’t there because he hadn’t been living with his father for a year.
CCTV footage captures Bhayani and Ashok Solanki walking out of the building around 10:40 a.m. Around 11:00 am, Bhayani returned to the building by himself, took the elevator to the 20th story, and then walked to the terrace, where he allegedly leaped, according to the police.
Suresh Rekhchand Rathi, 61, an eyewitness on the terrace, claimed to have seen Bhayani just before he made the drastic move. For a post-mortem analysis, the deceased’s body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital.
The authorities believe Bhayani committed suicide due to financial troubles and significant business losses. While more inquiry is being conducted, statements from Bhayani’s relatives and other individuals involved in the case are being recorded.
