55 Year Old Dies After Falling In Open Manhole In Sakinaka

In Mumbai’s Sakinaka neighborhood, a 55-year-old man perished on Thursday after falling into an open manhole. Aslam Sheikh has been recognized as the dead. According to the PTI report, Aslam Isak Shaikh, 55, was the deceased.

Aslam Sheikh was unsuccessfully rescued despite the efforts of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) fire department and other authorities. This is the second death in Mumbai brought on by the indifference of the wealthiest civic organization in Asia, BMC. Ahan Srivastav, age eleven, was murdered earlier when a tree collapsed on his school bus.

Aslam Sheikh, according to the BMC, was on the phone and did not see the manhole. It stated that he would not have been able to see the manhole because the entire area was flooded. More significantly, his death was caused by the contractors who performed the manhole cleaning work failing to post a signboard and leaving it exposed, according to BMC.

According to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawade, she has ordered the investigation and would take action against the perpetrators as soon as she has the report.

A CCTV camera on Khairani Road captured footage of Aslam passing a tempo and then abruptly vanishing. Additionally, it depicted employees at the location looking into the open manhole.

According to officials, the workmen only discovered his umbrella and slippers after they dropped a ladder down the manhole to look for him. Whether the manhole was attached to a stormwater drain or a sewer pipe was not immediately apparent. At first, it was impossible to tell which way he had been swept because of the powerful water flow, according to officials.

“A fireman equipped with breaching apparatus descended into the underground line and the man was pulled out,” an official stated. The victim was later found some distance from where he had fallen.

According to the BMC source, he was taken to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead.

According to Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi, the contractor will be charged with “homicide” by the civic council.

Kishori Pednekar, opposition leader in the BMC and member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed disbelief that such an incident could happen on a major thoroughfare while civic work was underway.

She questioned why there weren’t enough safety precautions in place near the open manhole.
