13-Hour Mega Block on Western Railway Tonight: Mumbai Central-Grant Road Services to Be Hit; Check Details

[By Mumbai Samachar Team]

Mumbai: While the railway administration regularly conducts blocks on Sundays for track and signaling maintenance work, Western Railway will implement a 13-hour night mega block between Grant Road and Mumbai Central tomorrow for bridge construction activities. Simultaneously, another block will be executed for work on Prabhadevi Bridge. With two blocks being undertaken concurrently, several trains will be cancelled tonight while many others will run behind schedule, potentially causing significant inconvenience for late-night and early-morning commuters.

Western Railway will undertake a 13-hour jumbo block on UP and DOWN slow lines between Grant Road and Mumbai Central stations from 11:00 PM on Saturday/Sunday, January 3/4, 2026, until 12:00 PM noon for re-girdering work on Bridge Number 5.

Traffic Diversion Plan

During the block period, all UP slow line trains will operate on the UP fast line between Mumbai Central and Churchgate. DOWN slow line trains will run on the DOWN fast line between Churchgate and Mahim stations.

Consequently, all DOWN slow trains will skip Mahalaxmi, Prabhadevi, and Matunga Road stations due to platform unavailability, and Lower Parel and Mahim stations due to insufficient platform length. Several suburban trains will be cancelled during the block, while certain Churchgate-bound trains will be terminated/reversed from Bandra/Dadar stations.

Passenger Advisory

Passengers will be permitted to travel in the opposite direction at Mahalaxmi station. Similarly, passengers wanting to reach Matunga Road and Mahim from Churchgate and other stations can alight at Bandra and travel in the opposite direction on the UP slow line using the same ticket.

The list of cancelled trains has been provided in Appendix-I, while the list of short-terminated/reversed trains is given in Appendix-II.
