Maharashtra Class 12 Student Dies After Falling from Local Train

In a heartbreaking incident on the opening day of Maharashtra’s Class 12 board examinations, an 18-year-old student lost his life after falling from a crowded local train while heading to his exam centre.

The victim, identified as Soham Kathre, a resident of Dombivli, was travelling toward his examination venue in Kalwa when the accident took place. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the mishap occurred between Kalwa and Mumbra railway stations during the busy morning rush hour on Tuesday.

Senior inspector Archana Dusane of Thane GRP reported that Kathre was standing on the footboard of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-bound local train. He reportedly lost his grip and fell onto the tracks.

Passersby noticed the injured teenager lying near the railway tracks around 10 am and promptly informed authorities. A team from Thane Railway Police arrived at the scene and rushed him to a nearby government hospital. Doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

The tragedy unfolded as Class 12 board exams commenced across Maharashtra on Tuesday, with thousands of students commuting via the heavily used suburban rail network in the Mumbai metropolitan region. Kathre had been making his way to the exam centre in Kalwa for his scheduled paper.

This incident underscores the persistent risks associated with overcrowded trains, particularly during peak commuting times, though no additional factors such as foul play have been indicated in official statements.
