Monsoon Is Here! Follow These Simple Health Tips To Stay Safe This Rainy Season

From dengue to stomach infections, a few smart habits can help you enjoy the rains without falling sick.

The monsoon brings cooler weather and much needed relief from the summer heat, but it also increases the risk of seasonal illnesses. Waterlogging, high humidity, and stagnant water create ideal conditions for mosquitoes and harmful germs, making infections more common during this time of the year.

One of the easiest ways to stay healthy is to drink only clean, filtered, or boiled water. Contaminated water can spread diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, hepatitis A, and cholera. Freshly cooked food is also a safer choice, while uncovered street food should be avoided, especially during heavy rains.

Mosquitoes breed rapidly in stagnant water, increasing the chances of diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. Empty water collected in coolers, flower pots, and buckets regularly, use mosquito repellent, and wear full sleeved clothing when stepping outdoors.

Good hygiene is equally important. Wash your hands frequently, keep your surroundings clean, and change out of wet clothes as soon as possible to reduce the risk of fungal skin infections.

Don’t forget to boost your immunity with a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and protein. Stay hydrated, get enough sleep, and make time for light exercise, even if it’s indoors.

If you develop a high fever, persistent vomiting, severe diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, or signs of dehydration, seek medical attention without delay instead of relying on self medication.

The rainy season is meant to be enjoyed. A few simple precautions can go a long way in keeping you and your family healthy, allowing you to make the most of the monsoon without unwanted trips to the doctor.
