Papmochani Ekadashi: Is It On 14th Or 15th ?

In the Hindu lunar calendar, Papmochani Ekadashi, observed during the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month, holds profound spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Vishnu. This auspicious occasion is widely regarded as a day when sincere fasting and worship can absolve individuals of all sins—both known and unknown—while inviting divine blessings and grace from the deity.

This year, many followers faced uncertainty over whether to observe the fast on March 14 or March 15, 2026. According to the Hindu Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi begins on March 14, 2026, at 8:10 AM and concludes on March 15, 2026, at 9:16 AM. Hindu fasting traditions, however, typically follow the Udaya Tithi principle—the lunar phase prevailing at sunrise. As a result, Papmochani Ekadashi will be observed on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

The day carries deep religious importance, with believers holding that faithful observance of the vrat leads to purification from past transgressions and attainment of Lord Vishnu’s favor.

Several auspicious muhurats are recommended for performing prayers and rituals on March 15:

These time windows are considered especially favorable for spiritual activities.

The puja vidhi for Papmochani Ekadashi begins with devotees rising early, bathing, and donning clean attire. They should first take a sankalp (vow) to observe the fast while invoking Lord Vishnu. The worship involves offering incense, a lighted lamp, fresh flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deity, with Tulsi leaves forming an essential part of the prasad.

Devotees are encouraged to recite Vishnu mantras or the Vishnu Sahasranama throughout the day for enhanced blessings. The fast is maintained all day, accompanied by prayer, meditation, and reflection on Lord Vishnu. In the evening, an aarti is performed in honor of the deity.

The vrat concludes on the following day, Dwadashi (March 16, 2026), after proper rituals, when the fast is broken during the designated Parana time.
