Dosa Emerges as a Fast-Rising Favourite in Seattle According to Google Maps Data

Dosa has become one of the fastest-rising food trends in Seattle, with mentions of the South Indian dish in restaurant reviews increasing by 136 per cent over the past year.

The finding comes from Google Maps’ first Fan-Favourite Dining List, which tracks popular foods and restaurants across 10 cities worldwide using reviews, ratings and requests for directions. In Seattle, the surge in dosa mentions places the traditional fermented rice-and-lentil crepe among the city’s most notable emerging favourites. Restaurants such as Shri Ananda Bhavan and Chennai Express are highlighted as popular spots for the dish.

The report also notes several other global food trends. In New York, reviews mentioning frozen yoghurt rose by 320 per cent, signalling a strong comeback for the dessert. Montreal saw an 84 per cent rise in cinnamon bun reviews, while matcha continued to gain popularity across most of the cities surveyed, with notable growth in Chicago, Santiago, Seattle, San Francisco, New York and Atlanta.
