US President Donald Trump on Friday said that Chinese President Xi Jinping has approved a deal allowing TikTok to continue operations in the United States. The announcement came after what Trump described as a “very productive” phone call between the two leaders, during which they also discussed trade ties, fentanyl trafficking, and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“I just completed a very productive call with President Xi of China. We made progress on many very important issues including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. However, he did not provide further details of the deal.
Trump confirmed that he will visit China in early 2026, while Xi is expected to travel to the United States at a later date. The two leaders also plan to meet at the APEC summit in South Korea later this year.
Chinese state media described the call as “pragmatic, positive, and constructive.”
According to NBC News, the White House confirmed that the discussion between Trump and Xi began at 8 am on Friday and primarily focused on finalizing the TikTok deal and ongoing trade negotiations. The last known call between the leaders took place in early June, their first since Trump’s return to the White House in January. That conversation, lasting over an hour, was also described by Trump as ending on a “very positive” note for both Washington and Beijing.
Subsequently, US and Chinese officials met in London and agreed on a framework to ease trade tensions, including reduced tariffs and the resumption of rare earth mineral supplies from China to American companies.
