Trump Responds to India’s Operation Sindoor: ‘Hope It Ends Very Quickly’

U.S. President Donald Trump issued his first public response to India’s recent Operation Sindoor strikes in Pakistan, expressing hope for a swift end to the tensions. His comments followed India’s announcement that it had carried out targeted strikes on nine locations in Pakistan, in retaliation for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Trump said, “It’s a shame. We just heard about it as we were walking into the Oval. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on the past. They’ve been fighting for a long time many decades, even centuries, if you think about it. I hope it ends very quickly.”
Earlier in the day, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson also weighed in, voicing strong support for India’s counter-terror efforts. “India has to stand against terrorism. We will do everything possible to support those efforts. The Trump administration will help India with energy and resources to fight terrorism,” Johnson said. He added that the U.S. recognizes the significance of the India-U.S. relationship and the mutual threat posed by terrorism.
India’s Official Statement on Operation Sindoor:
According to a press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Indian Army conducted Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure within Pakistan. The Army also posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Justice is served. Jai Hind!”
The PIB further clarified that nine terror-linked sites were struck, and emphasized that the operation was “measured and non-escalatory.” The release noted that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted and that India had exercised significant restraint in both the choice of targets and the manner in which the operation was carried out.
