Trump Reiterates Greenland Is ‘Imperative’ After Call With NATO Chief, Davos Meeting Planned

US President Donald Trump on Monday said Greenland remains central to his national and global security outlook, following what he described as a “very good” telephone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the discussion resulted in an agreement to convene a meeting involving “the various parties” on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“I agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos, Switzerland,” Trump wrote, adding that he had reiterated his long-held position on Greenland’s strategic importance. “As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back on that, everyone agrees,” he said.

Trump’s comments signal a continued push to keep Greenland at the centre of transatlantic strategic discussions, particularly within the NATO framework. While he did not provide details on the agenda or participants for the proposed Davos meeting, his remarks suggest that the issue will be discussed alongside broader security considerations during the annual global summit.

The statement follows a series of public interventions by Trump linking Greenland’s geopolitical value to wider questions of international security, and indicates that the subject is set to feature prominently in upcoming high-level engagements during the World Economic Forum.
