Trump and Putin Address India-Pakistan Tensions in Phone Call

Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation that touched on the recent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, according to Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov. The discussion, reported by Russian news agency TASS, highlighted Trump’s role in helping to de-escalate the conflict. “They also addressed the Middle East and the armed conflict between India and Pakistan, which was halted with the personal involvement of President Trump,” Ushakov stated during a briefing, though he did not elaborate on specific details.
The call also covered other global issues, including Ukraine and Iran’s nuclear program. Trump emphasized the urgency for Iran to make decisions regarding its nuclear ambitions.
The India-Pakistan conflict intensified following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot in Jammu and Kashmir, India, where 26 civilians lost their lives. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based terrorists. In response, India conducted Operation Sindoor on May 7, executing targeted strikes on terrorist camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
