Trump Issues Stark Warning: US Poised for “Very Strong Action” if Iran Proceeds with Hanging Protesters

President Donald Trump has issued a firm warning to the Iranian government, stating that the United States would respond with “very strong action” should Tehran carry out executions by hanging anti-government protesters amid the ongoing wave of demonstrations in the country.

In an interview with CBS News, Trump addressed reports of potential hangings, noting that he had not yet received confirmation of such plans. “I haven’t heard about the hanging. If they hang them, you’re going to see some things… We will take very strong action if they do such a thing,” he said, without specifying the nature of the anticipated response.

The remarks come against the backdrop of escalating unrest in Iran, where widespread protests—sparked initially by economic grievances such as soaring inflation and currency devaluation—have faced a severe crackdown by authorities. Rights groups have reported significant casualties and detentions, with concerns mounting over the regime’s use of capital punishment against those arrested in connection with the demonstrations.

Trump’s statement echoes his earlier expressions of support for the protesters, including social media posts urging them to persist and assuring that “help is on its way,” while also announcing the cancellation of any meetings with Iranian officials until the killing of demonstrators ceases. He has repeatedly emphasized close monitoring of the situation by U.S. officials and the military, describing various options under consideration.

The president highlighted his awareness of the reported death toll and expressed disapproval of the violence, reiterating that the U.S. does not want to witness further escalation involving mass killings or executions. However, he refrained from detailing potential measures, whether economic, diplomatic, or otherwise.

This latest caution from Trump intensifies pressure on Tehran as international attention focuses on the protests and the regime’s response. The U.S. has previously imposed sanctions and other measures amid tensions with Iran, and the president’s comments signal readiness to escalate if executions proceed.
