Trump Reveals Israel’s Backing for 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Calls on Hamas to Accept

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire proposal for Gaza, a move aimed at pausing the ongoing conflict that has claimed over 58,000 Palestinian lives since October 2023. The announcement, made via a post on Truth Social, followed productive discussions between Trump’s representatives and Israeli officials.

The ceasefire, mediated by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, seeks to halt the violence sparked by Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, which killed more than 1,200 people and resulted in over 250 hostages being taken. Israel’s subsequent military response has devastated much of Gaza, intensifying the humanitarian crisis in the region. Trump emphasized the urgency of the deal, urging Hamas to accept the terms delivered by Qatari and Egyptian mediators, warning that failure to do so would worsen the situation. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better “IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” he stated on Truth Social.

While specific details of the ceasefire agreement were not disclosed, Trump indicated that the 60-day pause would provide a window for broader peace negotiations. The proposal comes amid ongoing mediation efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt, with Hamas reportedly seeking stronger assurances on Israeli troop withdrawal and humanitarian aid access, while Israel insists on the release of hostages as a key condition.
