He described one woman at the scene as a deliberate provocateur, while stating the driver behaved erratically, blocked officers, and refused to comply before allegedly driving into the ICE officer with force. Trump suggested the officer appeared to fire to protect himself and noted the agent is now hospitalized recovering from injuries. Governor Walz condemns incident, urges calm

Walz revealed his office reached out to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem without receiving any reply. Noem is scheduled to visit Minneapolis shortly. Walz maintained that Minnesota does not require further federal involvement and condemned the absence of communication with state and local authorities, describing the shooting as foreseeable and completely preventable.
Walz underscored that National Guard deployment aims to safeguard residents and constitutional liberties rather than intimidate communities. He noted Guard personnel facilitate lawful demonstrations while preventing property damage, operating with full transparency and visible identification.
Victim has not been identified
Walz confirmed he has had no communication with the woman’s relatives and stated authorities have not yet officially identified the victim. He emphasized the investigation remains active and criticized federal representatives for drawing conclusions about the victim’s intentions before establishing fundamental facts, describing the footage as deeply troubling to view.
DHS defends agents’ actions
The Department of Homeland Security reported that officers were executing targeted enforcement activities when demonstrators obstructed their path. DHS contended the woman weaponized her vehicle against officers, labeling the action as domestic terrorism. The agency stated an officer discharged his firearm believing his life and others’ were in immediate danger.
