Global Firepower Index 2026 : Where Does India Rank Among the World’s Most Powerful Militaries?

New Delhi : Amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and new formation of alliances Global Firepower Index 2026 has released a list of 145 countries evaluating their military strength on key aspects like air, water and land. These rankings are released by Global Firepower which has been releasing since 2006.

World’s strongest military position yet retained by the US in the 2026 Global Firepower rankings. The country secured a score of 0.0741 in the power index maintaining the streak of number 1 position since 2005. The second position is reserved by Russia with a power index of 0.0791 followed by China with 0.0919 power index score making it third position.

In comparison to last year certain changes did take place for nations that’s entitled for state-sponsored terrorism, Pakistan ofcourse. The marvelous display of Indian armed forces have made the world realize how ruptured military strength falls under the hands of Shehbaz Sharif.

But before that let us know where our beloved India stands ? Well, just like the previous year India stands with 0.1346 whereas South Korea falls in fifth position holding 0.1642 score of power index.

The global fireworks report evaluates 60 factors that take into account the military strength of a country. It reflects the overall nation’s armed forces that involves defence equipment, manpower and technology, overall defence resources.

Now that you know the rankings, here’s the bad news for our neighbour Pakistan. Initially, in 2024 Pakistan was placed in 9th position then in 2025 it slipped down to 12th rank and in recent times as we are speaking in 2026 the fall has come to 14th rank. 

Pakistan has always flaunted its mighty military strength but the Indian mission of Operation Sindoor has set the tone for Pakistan as the war between the two nations have given the world a reality check pertaining to the false claims made on a regular basis.
