Tata Group And OpenAI Forge Strategic AI Partnership To Boost AI Infrastructure In India

Tata Group, TCS and OpenAI Join Forces to Advance AI Infrastructure, Innovation and Solutions in India

New Delhi : The Tata Group, its technology arm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and OpenAI have unveiled a comprehensive strategic alliance focused on accelerating artificial intelligence development across India and beyond. The collaboration aims to drive innovation in enterprise, consumer and social applications while establishing significant AI infrastructure in the country.

Under the agreement announced on Thursday, the partners will create India’s first large-scale AI-optimised data centre, beginning with an initial capacity of 100 megawatts, which can be expanded up to one gigawatt in the future. This facility is designed to support next-generation AI training and inference workloads, helping position India as a key global hub for artificial intelligence.

A major component of the partnership will see thousands of Tata Group employees given access to Enterprise ChatGPT, enabling greater productivity and innovation throughout the conglomerate. TCS will also implement OpenAI’s Codex tools to strengthen its software engineering practices.

Beyond internal deployments, the collaboration includes the joint creation of industry-specific Agentic AI solutions. OpenAI will provide its leading AI models, while TCS will contribute deep domain expertise to tailor solutions for sectors such as finance, healthcare and manufacturing. Both organisations will work together on global go-to-market strategies, helping enterprises adopt, integrate and scale OpenAI’s advanced AI platforms.

According to Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, the alliance marks a key milestone in India’s ambition to become a global AI leader. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said India’s talent and supportive environment position the country well to shape the future of AI development.

The collaboration also includes initiatives to equip young people with AI skills and build responsible, impactful tools for social benefit.
