A SpiceJet flight en route from Delhi to Leh was compelled to turn back to the national capital on Tuesday morning following a technical malfunction involving one of its engines.
The Boeing 737 aircraft, operating as flight SG121, was carrying approximately 150 passengers when the problem arose shortly after departure. According to sources familiar with the matter, the plane experienced an engine snag mid-air, prompting the crew to return to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
The aircraft landed without incident, and all passengers were deplaned in an orderly manner, a SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed. The airline described the occurrence as a technical issue and emphasized that the landing was safe with no further complications reported.
In statements to the media, the spokesperson noted that the flight from Delhi to Leh had to return due to the technical snag, but operations were handled smoothly upon arrival back in Delhi.
Reports from various sources, including PTI, indicate that the issue specifically involved an engine problem, with some accounts specifying a failure in Engine Number 2, which led to the precautionary return. Airport protocols were activated, including preparations for an emergency landing to ensure passenger safety, though no emergency evacuation or injuries occurred.

The incident underscores the swift decision-making by the flight crew in prioritizing safety amid an in-flight technical challenge. No additional details on the cause of the engine snag or any subsequent maintenance actions have been disclosed by the airline at this time.
Passengers aboard the flight, destined for the high-altitude destination of Leh in Ladakh, were safely accommodated following the unscheduled return. SpiceJet has not yet provided an update on alternative arrangements for those traveling onward.
