Shooting near Harvard University by man on bicycle; suspect search underway, shelter-in-place lifted

Police in Cambridge responded Friday morning to reports that a man on a bicycle fired shots at another person near Harvard University, triggering a brief shelter-in-place advisory for students and staff. Authorities said ballistic evidence was recovered on Sherman Street near Danehy Park, and there are no known victims or ongoing threats to public safety at this time.
Harvard’s emergency alert said the suspect was last seen riding toward Garden Street, advising the community to avoid the area and remain indoors while the search continued. The university later lifted the shelter-in-place order, but urged people to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity to campus police as shuttle services resumed near the Radcliffe Quad.
Local outlets reported that multiple alerts went out before noon as Cambridge Police and campus officers canvassed areas between North Cambridge, the Quad, and Harvard Square. Students and nearby residents were briefly asked to stay inside, and police emphasized that the incident remains under investigation with no immediate risk identified.
