Pakistan’s PM Urges Dialogue with India to Resolve Longstanding Disputes

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for diplomatic talks with India to address unresolved issues, including the contentious Jammu and Kashmir dispute, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence between the two nations. Speaking on Friday night, Sharif highlighted the futility of past conflicts, noting that the three wars fought between India and Pakistan yielded no tangible gains.

Sharif advocated for both countries to engage as “peaceful neighbors” and work collaboratively to settle their differences. “The lesson is to sit down as peaceful neighbors and settle all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir. Without resolution of our issues, we cannot have peace in this part of the world,” he stated. His remarks come in the wake of heightened tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor, a military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which India attributed to Pakistan-based elements.

The Pakistani leader’s appeal for dialogue follows a stern warning from India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism. Sharif’s comments reflect a push for de-escalation amid recent military exchanges and a fragile ceasefire brokered with international mediation, including efforts by the United States.
