Russian Oil Decision Based On Market Says India, India–US Ties Resilient Despite Challenges

New Delhi : India on Friday said it had taken note of Donald Trump’s announcement of 25% tariffs on Indian goods, adding that it is studying and reviewing the move, while choosing not to respond to the US President’s taunt about Pakistan potentially selling oil to India.
India stated that its choices are guided by the prevailing global scenario and the best available deals in the market to secure the country’s energy needs. Our ties with any country stand on their merit and should not be seen from the prism of a third country. As far as India-Russia relations are concerned, we have a steady and time-tested partnership, Jaiswal stated.
In securing our energy needs, we are guided by what is on offer in the markets and by the prevailing global circumstances, Jaiswal said in a statement. When asked about a recent Reuters report stating that Indian state refiners had stopped buying Russian oil in the past week, Jaiswal said, We are not aware of anything about this.
Noting that the India–US partnership has weathered many storms in the past, the MEA said both sides are confident that the relationship will continue to move forward. India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties. This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges.
