Qatar PM Demands Ceasefire Respect: “Violations Are UNACCEPTABLE” After Iran Strikes US Base Near Doha

“unacceptable” on Tuesday (June 24) and urged all parties to honor the truce amid escalating tensions. Speaking at a joint press conference with Lebanese PM Nawaf Salam, Al Thani revealed the ceasefire proposal originated from a US request for Qatar to mediate.

“Our friends in the US proposed that Qatar initiate the ceasefire. We communicated with Iran,” stated Al Thani, referencing President Donald Trump’s subsequent announcement. He emphasized: “Ceasefire violations happening are unacceptable. All must agree to the agreement and must respect.”

The Qatari leader confirmed receiving a call from Iran’s president, stressing that “such hostile acts are not expected from a friendly country” and urging containment “as soon as possible.”

Al Thani also condemned Iran’s Monday missile strike on the Al-Udeid Air Base near Doha, which triggered explosions across central Doha and Lusail: “We strongly and vehemently condemn Iran’s attack… an unacceptable act.”

Qatari forces intercepted all but one missile during the assault, dubbed “Operation Glad Tidings of Victory” (Bashar al Fateh) by Iran’s state TV. The strike targeted US forces in retaliation for American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which Trump hailed as a “Bullseye!!!”

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council asserted the attack “shattered” the US base but posed no danger to Qatar or its people, vowing to maintain “warm and historic relations.” Qatar confirmed its air defenses successfully repelled the missiles and safeguarded personnel.
