Projectile Hits Near Iran Nuclear Plant, No Damage Says IAEA

Tehran: A projectile has struck the vicinity of one of Iran’s nuclear power plants amid the ongoing conflict in the region, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog has confirmed, according to a report by NDTV, citing international agencies.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it had been informed by Iranian authorities that the impact occurred near the Bushehr nuclear power facility. However, officials clarified that no damage had been recorded at the plant itself and there were no indications of any radiological consequences.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasised the importance of avoiding military actions in the vicinity of nuclear infrastructure. He warned that any such incidents carry the risk of triggering a serious nuclear safety crisis, particularly in a conflict zone where tensions remain high.

The development comes against the backdrop of intensifying hostilities involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Recent military exchanges have raised global concerns about the safety of critical infrastructure, especially facilities linked to nuclear energy and research.

Despite the reported strike, Iranian officials reassured the watchdog that the situation at the plant remains stable. The Bushehr facility, located along Iran’s southern coast, is a key component of the country’s civilian nuclear energy programme.

The IAEA reiterated its call for maximum restraint by all parties, stressing that protecting nuclear sites must remain a priority under international norms. Any escalation involving such facilities could have far-reaching consequences beyond the immediate conflict zone.

As reported by NDTV, the incident highlights the growing risks associated with military movements near sensitive installations. While no immediate damage has been reported, the situation continues to be closely monitored by international authorities amid fears of further escalation.
