PM Modi Gets 21-Gun Salute at Maldives Independence Day Event, First Head Of State Or Government Since Muizzu Assumed Office

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to the Maldives, was welcomed with a 21-gun salute at the 60th Independence Day celebrations in the Maldives. Prime Minister Modi was received at the Male airport by President Muizzu along with the country’s senior cabinet members, including the Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, Finance Minister and the Minister of Homeland Security.
During his visit to the Maldives on July 25-26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions with President Mohamed Muizzu and inaugurate several development projects supported by India across the island nation. The Maldivian capital Male was decked up with colourful banners, giant posters and the Indian national flag lining the streets. Several major roundabouts, including the Republic Square and main roads leading from Male International Airport, were adorned with decorations to welcome the Prime Minister.
Members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers near the airport and along the route, many waving the Tricolour and chanting slogans to greet the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the Indian community for their warm and rousing welcome. India and the Maldives are making significant efforts to further strengthen their mutual relations. The people of India play a very important role in this journey.
