Pakistan Pitches US Investors on Strategic Arabian Sea Port, Report Reveals

Pakistan has reportedly approached the United States with a proposal to develop and manage a port on the Arabian Sea, according to a report by the Financial Times. Advisers to Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir discussed the plan with American officials following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House in September.

As per the report, the proposed project would allow US investors to construct and operate a terminal in Pasni, a port town in Balochistan’s Gwadar district. The facility would serve as a gateway to Pakistan’s reserves of critical minerals.

The initiative is seen as part of Pakistan’s broader effort to attract foreign investment, with General Munir earlier seeking US participation in sectors such as agriculture, technology, mining, and energy during his meeting with Trump. Financial Times noted that the port proposal was initially discussed with US officials in September and later shared with Munir ahead of the high-level talks.

The draft plan does not mention any military cooperation but instead outlines infrastructure goals, including the development of a rail link connecting the proposed port to Pakistan’s mineral-rich western regions.

Neither Pakistan nor US authorities have issued an official statement confirming the discussions.

Sharif, Munir meet Trump at White House
US President Donald Trump met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir at the White House on September 25 to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This marked the first formal engagement between a Pakistani leader and Trump since former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit in 2019.

According to the Pakistan Prime Minister’s Office, the Oval Office talks were attended by US Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
