‘Most Lethal Aircraft…’: US President Donald Trump Announces 6th-Gen F-47 Fighter Jet By Boeing

US President Donald Trump announced from the Oval Office that the Pentagon will move ahead with developing a groundbreaking sixth-generation fighter jet, designated as the F-47. During a joint briefing with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Trump stated that Boeing had been chosen to lead the project, marking a significant advancement in military aviation, according to CNN.

Trump claimed the new fighter, described as “the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built,” has been under experimental testing for nearly five years in secrecy. He emphasized that nothing else in the world comes close to the F-47’s capabilities, noting that a full-scale prototype had already taken flight during his previous administration.

The jet is being developed under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, which aims to produce a fighter far superior to the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II—a program that has faced significant challenges related to cost overruns and delays. In related comments, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk criticized the F-35 program on social media in November, arguing that unmanned drone swarms offer a more cost-effective and efficient alternative to manned fighter jets, as reported by CNN.

Trump’s remarks, which included an apparent nod to his own presidency by naming the aircraft the F-47, highlight the Air Force’s commitment to maintaining air superiority with next-generation technology. Aircraft designations are typically announced by the Air Force, but the decision to name it F-47 was publicly revealed by Trump during his Oval Office address.
