Mississippi Homecoming Shooting: At Least 6 Dead, 12 Injured; Attacker Still at Large

A tragic mass shooting struck downtown Leland, Mississippi, early Saturday during Leland High School’s homecoming celebrations, leaving four people dead and at least 12 injured. Mayor John Lee told CBS News the incident occurred around midnight on the city’s main street, where large crowds had gathered for the annual event. Four of the injured were airlifted to nearby hospitals, though their conditions remain unclear.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Mayor Lee confirmed the shooter has not yet been identified or apprehended, vowing that “justice will be served.” Calling the attack a shock to the small Washington County community of roughly 4,000 residents, he urged people to keep the victims in their prayers.
The homecoming event, described by school superintendent Jessie King as “picture perfect” earlier in the evening, had shown no signs of trouble before the shooting. King said there were “no issues whatsoever” during the football game and tailgate festivities, which ended peacefully.
