US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Make Second India Visit This Year

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to return to India before the end of the year, marking his second trip in 2026. The revelation underscores the growing warmth in bilateral ties and highlights strong American confidence in India as a key strategic partner.

Speaking at the IX US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit, Ambassador Gor emphasized that American businesses are showing unprecedented trust in the Indian market. He noted that the US government views India as a reliable and predictable ally, addressing common investor concerns about intellectual property protection, regulatory stability, and tax predictability.

Gor described ongoing efforts at the US Embassy in New Delhi to ease bureaucratic apprehensions among American companies. He recounted frequent meetings with executives who seek reassurance on investment safety. “It is gratifying to affirm that the United States trusts India, works closely with it, and is eager to explore further opportunities,” he stated, reflecting a positive shift in perceptions.

The ambassador highlighted a significant increase in high-level visits between the two capitals since he took office. Recent delegations included senior officials from commerce and the army. Rubio’s first official visit in May, accompanied by his wife Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, left a lasting impression. The four-day itinerary combined strategic discussions, including the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, with cultural experiences across cities such as Kolkata, Jaipur, Agra, and Delhi.

Gor shared a personal anecdote from the recent G7 Summit in France, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Donald Trump, and Secretary Rubio interacted. Modi inquired about Rubio’s experience in Jaipur, prompting the Secretary to express admiration for India’s rich history, vibrant colors, and architectural beauty. Rubio subsequently indicated his interest in planning another visit before year’s end.

The envoy stressed that the US-India relationship is built on deep structural commonalities that transcend short-term political changes. He pointed to vast potential for collaboration across sectors including artificial intelligence, technology, and aviation, aiming to lay foundations for decades of partnership.
