As diplomatic tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate, a cryptic social media post showing American military personnel being served an elaborate meal including steak, lobster, crab, and pie has set off a fresh wave of speculation online.
The image, shared on X, carried the caption: “US Troops received menus including steak, pie, crab legs & lobster.” The post quickly went viral, with many users interpreting the lavish spread as a possible signal of imminent military deployment. Retired US Air Force pilot Buzz Patterson added fuel to the fire by resharing the post with a pointed message: “IYKYK. It’s on.”
Why Does a Steak-and-Lobster Meal Trigger War Speculation?
There is no official confirmation from the US military linking the meal to any planned operation. However, a long-standing belief circulated widely on social media holds that American troops are served a special “last meal” featuring surf-and-turf staples like steak, lobster, and pie before being dispatched to active war zones or high-risk missions.
The theory resurfaces regularly during periods of heightened geopolitical tension. It is worth noting that such lavish meals are also commonly served to US military personnel on holidays, birthdays, and special occasions as morale-boosting gestures making any definitive interpretation difficult without official confirmation.
A Pattern From June 2024
This is not the first time such speculation has emerged. In June last year, on June 18, military personnel Antonia Lopez posted a video on social media showcasing an elaborate meal that included steak, lobster, caprese salad, asparagus, hush puppies, a baked potato, shrimp cocktail, fruit salad, garlic bread, cake, and pecan pie. The post coincided with the US Army’s birthday and went viral almost immediately.
What drew retrospective attention was what followed: just four days later, on June 22, the United States carried out military strikes on Iranian targets.
Reports of Khamenei Assassination Scenarios
Beyond the meal-related speculation, broader reports suggest that US President Donald Trump is weighing options that extend well beyond diplomatic engagement with Iran. According to an Axios report citing multiple sources, Trump is reportedly considering several scenarios including one that would involve the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Imam Ali Khamenei, and his potential successor and son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
No official statement has been issued by the White House or Pentagon in response to either the meal speculation or the Axios report.
