PM condemns Jerusalem carnage that killed six and injured many

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi unequivocally condemned a deadly terrorist attack in Jerusalem that claimed six lives, emphasizing India’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism. In a statement posted on X, Modi expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and wished for a swift recovery for those injured, reinforcing India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.

The attack occurred on Monday when two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop on the outskirts of Jerusalem, according to Israeli police. Described as one of the deadliest attacks in the city in recent years, the assault left six Israeli civilians dead and more than 20 others injured, with six in serious condition. Dashcam footage from Ramot Junction captured the chaos as people fled from gunfire. Israeli authorities reported that the attackers, identified as Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, were neutralized at the scene by a soldier and an armed civilian.

The victims included a 50-year-old man, a woman in her fifties, and three men in their thirties, as reported by the ambulance service. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar later confirmed a sixth fatality. The incident has drawn widespread international attention, with Modi’s statement underscoring India’s firm stance against terrorism in all its forms.

“India condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and stands firm in its policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism,” Modi wrote on X, addressing the heinous act. His remarks align with India’s consistent position on global security issues, advocating for a united front against such violence.

Israeli police recovered several weapons at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine further details about the attackers’ motives and potential accomplices. The attack has heightened tensions in the region, prompting Israeli authorities to bolster security measures in Jerusalem and surrounding areas.
