Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he dispatched a private jet carrying a case of his ultra-premium tequila to Jeff Bezos in Venice as a wedding gift. Palihapitiya stated the Amazon founder contacted him at the last minute, prompting the gesture. “I just got a text from Bezos. Sent my plane with a case of our tequila to Venice as a wedding present,” he posted, adding “Congratulations Jeff+Lauren!”.

The tequila, priced at $1,200 per 750ml bottle and shaped like poker chips, is a venture launched by Palihapitiya and his “All-In” podcast co-hosts on June 21 in Los Angeles. TechCrunch reported the initial stock sold out within hours.

This delivery occurred during Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s three-day wedding celebration on San Giorgio Maggiore island, reported to cost approximately $50 million. While the quantity of bottles sent wasn’t specified, flight tracking indicated numerous private jets arriving in Venice for the event.

Bezos, 61, and Sánchez, 55, married at a lavish ceremony attended by notable figures including Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Sánchez later posted an Instagram photo under the handle ‘laurensanchezbezos’, showing her in a white gown and Bezos in black tie. The couple stayed at the Aman hotel, a 16th-century palazzo overlooking Venice’s Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge.

The festivities concluded with a ‘Dolce Notte’ (Sweet Night) party where A-list guests wore sleepwear couture. Attendees received custom Amazon swag as return gifts: men got blue velvet Venetian slippers from Vibi Venezia, while women received black open-toe slippers from Amazon. Sánchez told Vogue these gifts were designed to reflect both partners’ personalities.
