According to reports, Israeli forces have pushed deeper into Lebanese territory, crossing significant geographical markers such as the Litani River in what analysts describe as a notable escalation. This move comes despite a ceasefire that was announced more than six weeks prior, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructing the army to broaden its manoeuvres in the area. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has indicated that troops will maintain positions at strategic sites like Beaufort Castle following its capture.
The expansion has drawn sharp global condemnation. France has formally requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address Israel’s actions in Lebanon. Reactions have poured in from various capitals, with Palestinian faction Hamas denouncing the airstrikes and ground advances as a “barbaric invasion.”
Compounding the regional volatility, the United States conducted strikes on Iranian radar and drone facilities in Goruk and on Qeshm Island over the weekend. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched retaliatory attacks on a base allegedly involved in prior strikes on its Sirik Island. Kuwait, meanwhile, reported facing “hostile” missile and drone attacks amid the exchanges.
