Iranian Foreign Minister Urges Calm in Talks with Pakistan’s Deputy PM Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Tehran: In a crucial diplomatic exchange, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday evening, according to a statement by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared on X (formerly Twitter). The discussion centered on the recent rise in tensions between Pakistan and India, with both sides emphasizing the importance of regional stability.
During the call, Dar updated Araghchi on Islamabad’s viewpoint regarding the current situation with New Delhi and commended Iran for its “constructive and responsible approach” in handling the sensitive circumstances between the two neighbors.
Expressing concern over the growing discord, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s call for “restraint and patience” from both India and Pakistan to navigate the crisis. He also reaffirmed Iran’s longstanding friendly ties with both nations and its dedication to fostering peace and security in the region. Araghchi further offered Iran’s “goodwill efforts” to assist in easing tensions and promoting dialogue.
This diplomatic outreach is underscored by Iran’s deep-rooted historical, cultural, and civilizational connections with both India and Pakistan. Iran’s relationship with India, in particular, is bolstered by centuries of cultural exchanges, strong diplomatic interactions, and vibrant trade and people-to-people ties.
India has consistently been one of Iran’s key trading partners, exporting goods such as rice, tea, sugar, pharmaceuticals, manmade fibers, electrical equipment, and imitation jewelry. In exchange, India imports Iranian products including dry fruits, chemicals, and glassware.
Cultural relations also remain robust, with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) in Tehran actively promoting bilateral ties since its inception in 2013. Additionally, tourism between the two countries continues to thrive, further strengthening the historical bonds shared by their peoples.
