Iran Closes Strait Of Hormuz Over Ceasefire Violations

According to Iran’s Mehr state news agency, Iran’s top unified military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, declared on Saturday, June 20, 2026, that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic due to alleged violations of a ceasefire deal by the United States and Israel.

It warned that more action would be taken if “aggression” persisted and stated that the shutdown was the “first step” in reaction to what it called “breach of commitments.”

Israel claimed the deaths of four of its soldiers on Friday, June 19, 2026, while Lebanese authorities recorded 47 persons killed in Israeli bombings. This is the largest total number of casualties since the US and Iran reached their agreement.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was reached on Friday, according to a U.S. official, following deadly clashes between the two groups in Lebanon that further strained an agreement to stop the West Asia conflict less than two days after it was signed. Following fierce combat between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, negotiations between the United States and Iran were canceled on Friday, June 19, 2026, according to officials, raising concerns about a preliminary deal to stop the conflict in Iran.
