Indian-Origin Stabs California Sex Offender to Death in Calculated Attack

Fremont, California — A 29-year-old man of Indian origin faces murder charges after a brutal stabbing that left a convicted child sex offender dead, an incident authorities have deemed a deliberate vigilante act with no prior ties between victim and assailant.
Varun Suresh allegedly used California’s public Megan’s Law registry to pinpoint 71-year-old David Brimmer, a registered sex offender who had served nine years in prison for child sexual assault dating back to 1995. On the day of the attack, Suresh disguised himself as a door-to-door certified public accountant, complete with a bag, notebook, and coffee cup to blend in. Approaching Brimmer’s home, he verified the man’s identity with a handshake before launching the assault, reportedly declaring, “I knew I had the right guy.”
As Brimmer fled two blocks away, desperately trying to flag down passing cars for aid without success, he sought refuge in a neighbor’s garage and kitchen. Suresh gave chase, stabbing him in the neck while demanding he “repent.” When Brimmer attempted to crawl to safety, Suresh slit his throat, inflicting fatal wounds. Despite immediate emergency response, Brimmer succumbed to his injuries at the scene, where police recovered the knife from Suresh and took him into custody without resistance.
Court records unsealed Monday detail Suresh’s chilling confession to detectives. He admitted harboring a long-standing urge to eliminate sex offenders, explaining, “they hurt children” and “deserve to die.” Targeting Brimmer specifically for his advanced age and perceived frailty, Suresh described the killing as “honestly really fun.” He expressed zero remorse in follow-up interviews, stating he felt “not sorry” and “didn’t feel sad at all.” Dismissing any flight risk, he told officers he would have summoned police himself and anticipated leniency, saying, “I’m hoping that because (the victim is) a pedophile… like, everyone hates pedophiles… so like, it should be cool.”
A search of Suresh’s phone uncovered screenshots from the Megan’s Law site, including Brimmer’s profile captured just 45 minutes before the first 911 call. Officials stressed the attack was isolated, posing no broader danger to the public.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has formally charged Suresh with murder, residential burglary, and enhancement for using a deadly weapon. He remains jailed without bail as the case advances.
This incident echoes a prior brush with the law for Suresh. In 2021, he was arrested in Fremont for a hoax bomb threat, criminal threats, and burglary after abandoning a suspicious bag at the Hyatt Place hotel. He later claimed to investigators that he suspected the Hyatt CEO of being a pedophile and had been “hunting” him with murderous intent, triggered by an unrelated police shooting at the property the night before.
The slaying has drawn attention from national outlets, with the Independent reporting on the targeted nature of the violence and CBS News highlighting Suresh’s post-arrest admissions. As prosecutors weigh the evidence, the case underscores the perils of self-appointed justice in a system built on due process.
