New York : At the 64th Session of the Commission for Social Development held at United Nations Headquarters in New York India reiterated its commitment to inclusive and rights-based social development.
Savitri Thakur, Minister of State for Women and Child Development led the Indian delegation where she reaffirmed India’s long term approach for “Viksit Bharat 2047” aligned with its advancement of social development and social justice.
She said that India’s social justice and protection framework are brought up through its constitutional guarantees which are guided by the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” that mirrors the whole of government and whole of society approach to make sure nobody is left behind.
She listed important achievements, such as equal educational opportunities for boys and girls, increased access to essential amenities like clean cooking energy, drinking water, and sanitary facilities, and widespread financial inclusion that primarily benefits women.

Thakur also emphasized enhanced social security for the elderly, people with disabilities, unorganized workers, and transgender people, as well as national support networks for women and children and comprehensive maternal and child health programs.
Additionally, the Indian delegation emphasized the need of direct benefit transfers and digital public infrastructure in enhancing efficiency and transparency.
In order to promote social development, the delegation called for more multilateral cooperation, capacity building, and South-South cooperation in response to global concerns.
Over 100 UN member states participated in the session, which was chaired by Ambassador Khrystyna Hayovyshyn of Ukraine and featured speeches by top UN officials, including General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock and Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.
