India Condemns Attacks on Riyadh and Abha Airports, Calls Targeting of Civilian Infrastructure ‘Unacceptable’

India on Thursday (Oct 8) condemned the attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia that have caused civilian deaths and injuries. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said: “India condemns the attacks over the past few days targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which have resulted in civilian deaths and injuries. The targeting of civilian infrastructure is completely unacceptable. We express our deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. We wish speedy recovery for those injured. We express solidarity and stand with the people and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Houthis claim missile attack on King Khalid airport

The statement came after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group said on Thursday that it had attacked King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh with a ballistic missile.

Authorities said three people have been killed in attacks on Saudi Arabia’s airports over two days. Two people were killed and 28 wounded in an attack at Abha International Airport, while one person was killed and eight were wounded in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Saudi-led coalition struck Hodeida earlier

Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Monday that it had carried out strikes against “military targets” belonging to the Iran-backed Houthis in Hodeida, a key port city on Yemen’s Red Sea coast. Coalition spokesman Turki Al-Malki said on X that naval forces had destroyed weapons depots and facilities storing booby-trapped boats and naval mines as part of the operation. He added that the coalition had also thwarted a planned attack targeting waterways in the southern Red Sea.
