IIT Bombay Alumnus Devendra Singh Chaplot Joins Elon Musk’s SpaceX And xAI

Mumbai: An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has joined technology entrepreneur Elon Musk’s companies SpaceX and xAI, marking a significant milestone in the career of Indian AI researcher Devendra Singh Chaplot.

According to a report by The Free Press Journal, Chaplot recently announced that he would be joining Musk’s organisations to work on advanced artificial intelligence initiatives. Musk also welcomed him publicly on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), acknowledging his addition to the team.

Chaplot is known for his work in artificial intelligence and robotics research. Before joining Musk’s ventures, he had been associated with several leading technology organisations and research institutions. He previously worked at Meta Platforms, where he contributed to projects under the company’s artificial intelligence research division.

His academic journey began at IIT Bombay, where he pursued a degree in computer science. After completing his undergraduate studies, Chaplot continued his academic career in the United States, eventually earning a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University, one of the world’s leading institutions for research in artificial intelligence and robotics.

Over the years, Chaplot has built a strong reputation in the field of AI research. His work has focused on areas such as machine learning, robotics and intelligent systems, contributing to the development of technologies that enable machines to better understand and interact with their environments.

As reported by The Free Press Journal, Chaplot’s move to SpaceX and xAI reflects the growing global demand for top AI talent. The companies are actively working to develop advanced artificial intelligence technologies that could be applied across space exploration, robotics and large-scale computing systems.
