Haryana Security Guard Fatally Shot in California Over Public Urination Dispute

JIND: A 26-year-old man from Haryana’s Jind district was killed in California on Saturday after a confrontation over public urination, according to local reports. Kapil, a security guard from Barah Kalan village, was shot dead while on duty after he challenged an individual for urinating outside the premises, village sarpanch Suresh Kumar Gautam.
Kapil, the only son of farmer Ishwar, had moved to the United States two and a half years ago via the “donkey route,” an illegal migration path involving a perilous journey through Panama’s jungles and over the Mexico border wall. The journey reportedly cost his family approximately Rs 45 lakh. After his initial arrest upon entering the US, Kapil was released through legal proceedings and had since been working as a security guard in California.
The incident occurred when Kapil confronted the individual, leading to an argument that ended with the assailant shooting him on the spot, Gautam stated. The news of Kapil’s death reached his family through a relative living in the US. The village community is now rallying to support the grieving family, who are seeking assistance to repatriate Kapil’s body to India.
“The entire village stands united with the family,” said Gautam, who added that they plan to meet the Jind deputy commissioner to request government help in bringing Kapil’s remains back home. The family’s loss has cast a pall of sorrow over Barah Kalan, as they mourn the young man’s tragic death far from home.
The incident has also drawn attention to the dangers faced by Indian migrants who undertake risky journeys to seek better opportunities abroad. The family’s plea for assistance underscores the need for support in such tragic circumstances.
