Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy Shot Dead In Lviv

Lviv : Former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv on Saturday. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Parubiy’s death, calling it a “horrendous murder.” He said Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko had reported the first details of the incident.

My condolences to his family and loved ones, Zelenskyy said in a statement on X, adding that all necessary forces and means are engaged in the investigation and search for the killer. According to the Kyiv Independent, Parubiy was fatally shot in the city’s southern Frankivskyi district. Police said they received an emergency call around noon, and the victim died at the scene.

The National Police initially reported that a political figure had been killed in the shooting. Lawmaker Iryna Herashchenko from the European Solidarity party later confirmed to the Kyiv Independent that the victim was Parubiy, the Kyiv Independent report mentioned.
Parubiy had played a key role in the EuroMaidan Revolution.

EuroMaiden Revolution was a wave of protests in Ukraine after President Yanukovych rejected an EU deal in favor of closer ties with Russia. The movement, centered in Kyiv’s Independence Square, grew into a nationwide uprising against corruption and repression. It ended with Yanukovych fleeing the country, followed by Russia’s annexation of Crimea and war in eastern Ukraine.
