Egg Thrown at Imran Khan’s Sister Outside Pakistan Jail, Two Women Detained

Rawalpindi: Two women were arrested in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, after throwing an egg at Aleema Khanum, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, during a press conference outside Adiala Jail. The incident followed a court hearing related to the Toshakhana case earlier that day.

Police reported that the women were supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). The egg was hurled after Aleema reportedly sidestepped a journalist’s question, escalating tensions at the scene. The act drew sharp criticism, including from Barrister Gohar Khan, who condemned the incident and called for enhanced security for the family to prevent future occurrences. He urged the government to address the issue promptly.

PTI supporters also voiced their disapproval online. One X user stated, “We strongly condemn this act. Such behavior is unethical and unfortunate, turning political differences into personal attacks. Disagreements are fine, but civility and respect must remain.” Another user remarked, “This shameful act is orchestrated by Asim Munir and the Noon League, who fear Khan and his family.”

The press conference grew heated as journalists pressed Aleema about reporter Tayyab Baloch, who faced online harassment after raising concerns on social media. Baloch had questioned Aleema about a property allegedly purchased with donation funds, a claim also noted by journalist Ammar Solangi. Reporters challenged her, asking, “You avoided the question, and now Tayyab Baloch faces threats. Is asking a question a crime? Do you only answer questions you like?” Aleema denied any involvement in threats and left the scene shortly after the egg was thrown.

Meanwhile, the Toshakhana case involving Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, was postponed on Friday. The next hearing is set for September 8, with witness testimonies already documented during the trial.
