Trump Unveils $175 Billion ‘Golden Dome’ to Shield U.S. from Missile Threats

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed plans for a $175 billion missile defense initiative, dubbed the “Golden Dome,” aimed at safeguarding the nation against foreign missile attacks. Speaking at a White House press conference on Tuesday, Trump outlined the ambitious project, which he claims will be fully operational within three years, by the end of his term.

The Golden Dome, inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome system, is designed to counter a range of threats, including ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and advanced cruise missiles. Trump announced that U.S. Space Force General Michael Guetlein will lead the project, overseeing its development, testing, and integration. The system will rely on a vast network of satellites to detect, track, and intercept missiles, including those launched from space or across the globe.

“Once completed, the Golden Dome will be the most advanced defense system ever built, capable of stopping missiles from anywhere, ensuring the safety and survival of our country,” Trump stated. He highlighted that the project will be entirely American-made, with potential contractors including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and L3Harris Technologies.

The initiative has already secured $25 billion in initial funding, with congressional Republicans incorporating $27 billion for the Golden Dome into a $150 billion defense package tied to Trump’s tax-cut reconciliation bill.
