DHS Warning: H-1B Visa Holders and Students Must Carry Documents: New rule mandates immigrants carry proof of status, sparking concerns

A U.S. district judge has given the green light to a controversial rule pushed by the Trump administration, which mandates that all immigrants—including those legally residing on work or student visas—must register with the federal government and carry official documentation at all times.

Set to take effect on Friday, April 11, the new rule has drawn strong reactions and is expected to impact millions of non-citizens living across the United States.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a stern advisory following the court’s decision, emphasizing strict enforcement. “All non-citizens 18 and older must carry this documentation at all times,” the DHS said in a statement. “This administration has directed DHS to prioritize enforcement. There will be no sanctuary for noncompliance.”

The ruling reinforces the federal government’s stance on tightening immigration controls and applies even to those in the country on legal visas, such as H-1B workers and international students.

The policy has sparked concern among immigrant communities and advocacy groups, who warn it could lead to increased scrutiny and potential civil rights violations.
