Cuba And Iran Hit By Earthquake Tremors Within Hours After Philippines Quake

Cuba and Iran witnessed earthquake tremors within a span of a few hours, shortly after a devastating earthquake in the Philippines claimed several lives. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Cuba recorded a 6.1 magnitude earthquake, while Iranian state media reported a 5.0 magnitude quake in the southern province of Hormozgan.

Strong Earthquake Jolts Cuba

The earthquake near Cuba struck off the island’s northwestern coast and was considered unusual for that part of the Caribbean region. The USGS stated that the tremor occurred at a shallow depth and was centered around 104 kilometers west-northwest of Mantua, Cuba. Tremors were felt across western Cuba, including Havana, and extended to parts of Florida and Mexico.

Residents in Florida cities such as Miami and Orlando also reported feeling the shaking. Authorities activated emergency measures in affected areas, though no major injuries or structural damage were immediately confirmed. Officials also clarified that no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake.

Iran Reports 5.0 Magnitude Tremor

Within hours of the Cuba earthquake, Iranian state media confirmed another earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude in Hormozgan province in southern Iran. Iran is known for frequent seismic activity because of its location along several active fault lines. Reports did not immediately mention significant casualties or widespread destruction after the tremor.

Philippines Earthquake Adds to Global Concern

The tremors in Cuba and Iran came a day after a powerful earthquake in the Philippines triggered panic and caused fatalities. The recent series of earthquakes across different regions has once again highlighted concerns regarding seismic activity around the world.

Monitoring Situation Closely

Authorities and geological agencies continue to monitor aftershocks and seismic developments in the affected regions. Experts noted that the Cuba earthquake was particularly rare due to its location within a tectonic plate rather than along a plate boundary, making such strong quakes uncommon in that area.
